5 Tips For Going Back To School With Braces

A Trusted Orthodontist in Algonquin

Dr. Dwight Frey earned his undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Michigan before continuing his dental education at Northwestern University Dental School. After graduating, Dr. Frey completed a General Practice Residency Program at the University of Colorado Health Science Center before being accepted into the orthodontic residency program at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC, where he specialized in orthodontics.

In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Frey is a recognized leader in the orthodontic field. He is the author of "SAP & VIP: Making Smiles Great Again!" and the creator of the VIP and MTD concepts, as well as the RGB System of Orthodontic Classification. His work focuses on improving both the cosmetic and clinical aspects of orthodontic treatment, particularly in esthetics.

Dr. Frey is also a sought-after lecturer, frequently speaking at both national and international orthodontic conferences. He has lectured extensively on esthetics in orthodontics and is a guest presenter at the prestigious Pitts Masters Orthodontic Training Course. Additionally, he has contributed to the field as a beta tester for orthodontic products, including the Pitts21 and Pitts Clear bracket systems.

Outside of his work, Dr. Frey is based in the western suburbs of Chicago, where he enjoys spending time with his three children—Chase, Kirby, and Carter. In his free time, he loves skiing, golfing, and cheering on Chicago's sports teams.

Algonquin Braces

Braces in Algonquin are an excellent choice for correcting complex tooth issues. Since they can sometimes work faster at aligning teeth and closing gaps than other treatments might, overall treatment time may be slightly reduced.

Braces don’t require some of the more complex technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can, meaning Algonquin braces are a cost-effective orthodontic option.

Traditional metal braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools we have. They’re made out of metal or ceramic brackets that are affixed to the teeth, then connected by wires and tiny rubber bands or elastics.

We also use Pitts21 braces, a self-ligating bracket system designed to improve treatment efficiency and comfort. Unlike traditional braces, Pitts21 brackets use lower friction mechanics and light forces, which can lead to faster tooth movement and fewer office visits.

Algonquin Clear Aligners

uLab clear aligners incredibly popular with both patients and orthodontists in Algonquin and are the top alternative to traditional braces. Instead of brackets and bands, the our uLab system uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten your teeth.

Clear aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and customized to fit snugly over your teeth. To keep your teeth moving in the direction you want them to, you’ll need to switch your invisible trays out for the next one in the series every one to two weeks as directed by Dr. Frey.

The clear aligner system can only work if the recommended guidelines are followed exactly! Aligners should be worn 20–22 hours per day throughout treatment. If patients neglect to wear the aligners as directed, it can impede the results and also add time to the orthodontic process.

uLab aligners are at their most efficient when correcting many of the most common orthodontic issues. For some complex cases, clear aligners may not be a good option. A free consultation with Dr. Frey at Frey Orthodontics in Algonquin will allow us to determine your eligibility for aligners.
